politalkks

Okay, so on May 2nd Canada is having an election. Again. It's the fourth election in seven years for us. Which, you know, probably sucks a lot for taxpayers and whatever (they seem to be complaining about it a lot, along with the HST, possible prison, our government...) but, seeing as I wasn't of age for the last election, it's very exciting for me. I love that I have a voice. A voice that they are trying to hear. I love that we are a democratic country, and that people are telling us we have a say in the matter.
What I don't love is people not caring. People saying 'I don't care who wins, it doesn't matter anyways, so I'm just not going to vote.' That, my friends, is what I like to call, stupid. Because we all care who wins. That's why everyone is complaining about our government all the time. If you really don't care who our government is, then you shouldn't be complaining the rest of the year about if we have a crappy government. Seriously, how often do you see someone not voting, and then complaining about our government as soon as the decision is announced? Very often. See, people love to complain. About everything. But if you aren't doing anything about it, you aren't helping any situation.
If you want your voice heard, you need to speak up when you're given the chance.
There are so many people in this world who don't have the opportunity to vote, who would give almost anything to be able to. Yet here we are, free to vote and pick our leaders and who runs our country and free to decide how our country is run; and we choose not to? This is completely bizarre to me.
If you don't think one voice counts, go google Rosa Parks. Google Martin Luther King, Jr. Google Nelson Mandela. These are all examples of one person who was able to take a stand, and make a change. If all of the young people who were able to vote, did, think of the change that would be able to make? We are the future. If we don't start forming opinions now, when will we? When it's too late? That shouldn't even be an option. Do some research and find out which party you agree with the most. You'll never agree with anyone completely, and it's the same with your government. But there's going to be one party who you feel is the best suited to you, and on May 2nd, go out there and vote. Your vote could be the change.
